November Member of the Month - Hamilton - Landon
Tell us about yourself!
My name is Landon, I'm 29 and I moved to Hamilton a little over a year ago for school and have loved every minute of it! I am in my second year of medical school and thinking about a career in pediatrics. When I'm not studying I love to spend time with my sister Mac and her family, especially my niece Nori! I also play on a couple of rec sports teams including hockey, softball, dodgeball and ultimate.
What got you into CrossFit?
My sister recruited me to join Alchemy as soon as I moved to Hamilton. She had been a member for a little bit and loved it so we figured it could be a fun sister bonding activity!
What do you like about Alchemy?
I love how accepting everyone one is of different ability levels. When I started at Alchemy, I didn't have any CrossFit experience and it had been a while since I had been consistent with going to the gym. I was nervous about what to expect and if I would be able to keep up with the class but I was immediately put at ease with the friendliness and willingness of the coaches to work with me in creating a workout that suited my abilities. The entire coaching staff is exceptional and they never judge Mac and I when we break out into random dances during a workout!
What has been your proudest moment at Alchemy?
I don't think I could choose one specific moment, there have been many PRs hit and milestones reached, which has been super sweet, but what I'm most proud of is how much I look forward to going to the gym. For the first time ever, going to my 7am CrossFit class is something I'm excited to do!
What are your CrossFit goals for the future?
I hope to one day be able to do a pull up.
If you could design the perfect workout, what would it include?
My ideal workout would include deadlifts, weighted walking lunges, windmills, dead bugs, handstand push ups and wall walks.
What's the biggest change you've seen in yourself since you started CrossFit?
The biggest change I've seen is my attitude towards exercise. Joining Alchemy has given me such a positive outlook on exercise and fitness in general, it's even motivated me to start running and try new sports and activities I never thought I would be able to do!
When you're not at the gym, what's your favourite thing to do?
One of my favourite things to do in my down time is spend time with my niece. She's 2 years old and full of energy so something simple like going to the park or getting a treat somewhere on Locke Street is something I really look forward to!
What’s your favourite local Hamilton food spot?
Hamilton's restaurant scene has been really fun to explore but I'd have to say one of my favourite places is Bardo on Locke St--it's close to home and always tasty!
