Tell us about yourself!
Hi there! My name is Tracey Truman and I’m from Dundas. I consider myself a very lucky person with a wonderful husband named Jason and four amazing sons: Hayden, Kade, Ethan, and Teague. This year is a big one for me because I turned 50 and Jason and I are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary.
During the day, I work as an Executive Administrator at our Engineering Consulting company, where I handle accounting and payroll. When I’m not working or spending time with my kids, I love to get outdoors. Hiking, camping, and walking my dog are some of my favourite ways to stay active and explore nature.
I’m also a big sports fan, especially when it comes to the Toronto Blue Jays, Maple Leafs and the Raptors. And during the summer, you’ll find me in the garden, tending to my plants and enjoying the beautiful weather. Overall, I’m just a happy, energetic person who loves to make the most out of life.
What got you into CrossFit?
Exercise has always been a big part of my life, whether it’s training for a marathon, doing Pilates or playing tennis . My friend Anita recommended that I try Alchemy. At first, I was hesitant because it seemed really intimidating. But, as soon as I started going, my fears disappeared.
What do you like about Alchemy?
I have to say, the coaches at Alchemy are amazing. They are always so knowledgeable and encouraging, and they really help me get the most out of my workouts. And the members are pretty awesome too. here’s no judgment or negativity, just a lot of great people working out together and motivating each other. It feels great to be part of a community of people who are all working towards the similar goals. I’ve made some great friends at Alchemy and I always look forward to working out with them.
Honestly, I wouldn’t want to work out anywhere else. Alchemy people are my people!
What has been your proudest moment at Alchemy?
Working out with my sons at Alchemy is something that makes me really proud. It’s been great to share this experience with them and see them push themselves to new levels.
But I have to admit, it’s also made me work a little harder myself! There’s something about working out alongside your kids that really motivates you. And the best moment came when my youngest son, Teague, turned to me and said, “How does it feel to be fitter than your 19 year old?” That was a real “YESSS!” moment for me.
What are your CrossFit goals for the future?
My main priorities when it comes to fitness are to stay healthy and strong, and to be consistent with my workouts. I don’t have any specific performance goals or targets – for me, it’s more about maintaining my overall fitness and wellbeing. Whether it’s through regular workouts at Alchemy, or other activities like hiking or Pilates, I just want to keep moving and stay active as I get older.
What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in yourself since you started CrossFit?
Since joining Alchemy, I’ve noticed that I’m not just physically stronger, but mentally too. The challenges and support from the coaches and community have helped me push past my limits and become a stronger, more resilient person overall.
And when it comes to nutrition, the challenges have been a game-changer for me. I’ve become so much more conscious of what I’m putting into my body, and I’ve learned a lot about the importance of fuelling my workouts properly. I’m no longer just mindlessly eating – I’m making intentional, thoughtful choices about what I’m eating and why.
Overall, I feel like Alchemy has helped me to become a more well-rounded, health-conscious person. And I’m grateful for all of the support and guidance along the way.
When you’re not at the gym, what’s your favourite thing to do?
Travel is a huge passion of ours, and it all started when we got married in St. Lucia. Since then, we’ve made it a priority to see as much of the world as we can. From the excitement of planning and researching to the thrill of actually being in a new place, every aspect of travel fills me with joy. I’m always up for an adventure and I love trying new things. Whether it’s exploring a new city, trying a new food, or experiencing a new culture, I’m always eager to say “Yes” and see where it takes me.
What’s your favourite local Hamilton food spot?
A piping hot bowl of pho from Saigon in Westdale. It’s the perfect comfort food, especially on a chilly day.
