Member Spotlight: Siobhan Mather

Tell us about yourself!

Hi I’m Siobhán (pronounced She-vaughan for reference)–a Dundas native where I currently reside with my husband, daughter, and Mastiff.

What got you into CrossFit?

CrossFit was never something on my radar until I started my postpartum journey 2021–I didn’t “bounce back” and really had to find acceptance and love in my body again. Fast forward to the Mom and Babe classes on Locke with Kasey–we had an amazing group of women (many who were Alchemy members) and with their encouragement I tried my first few CrossFit classes. The journey to be a strong, healthy, badass mom had commenced!

What do you like about Alchemy?

Alchemy is like no other …the sense of community is amazing. The coaches always make me feel capable and celebrated. 

What has been your proudest moment at Alchemy?

I’ve had many proud moments but one that definitely sticks out is shaving 4 minutes off Alchemy Endurance Loop time from 2022 to 2023. Alchemy has also given me the confidence this year to complete the Around the Bay 5km race, Subaru Series Tri-Sprint, and Terry Fox Run.

What are your CrossFit goals for the future?

Continuing to learn and grow from the coaches alongside my 6am Crew – and to get up the bloody rope!! 

If you could design the perfect workout, what would it include?

Weights, squats, sit ups, and lunges. 

What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in yourself since you started CrossFit?

Confidence and strength.

When you’re not at the gym, what’s your favourite thing to do?

Spending quality time with my family. We love heading north to our cottage soaking up the outdoors and disconnecting. 

What’s your favourite local Hamilton food spot?

I have many as a self proclaimed “foodie” but one that we frequent is Namu in Dundas.
