Tell us about yourself!
Hey! I’m Noelle Smith, I’m 56, I’m a mom, a breast cancer survivor and I own a natural hair and beauty company in Dundas called Ellënoire.
What got you into CrossFit?
15 years ago I read a book by Tim Ferriss that talked about kettlebell swings being an amazing exercise. I joined Alchemy but avoided regular CrossFit classes for years and only for the longest time only came to kettlebell CrossFit.
What do you like about Alchemy?
The crazy people! The no judgement energy! The kettlebells…
What has been your proudest moment at Alchemy?
The very last few seconds of CrossFit Open WOD 23.3 when everyone in the entire room was cheering for me to get my last few snatches (despite my Oscar the Grouch underwear and the insane snow storm brewing outside.)
What are your CrossFit goals for the future?
To get a wickedly defined back and arms, and be able to do more rope climbs (I’ve only ever done 1!)
If you could design the perfect workout, what would it include?
Something with Turkish get-ups, kettlebell swings, and ski erg.
What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in yourself since you started CrossFit?
That I’m actually pretty good at faking being a morning person to be with my 8:00 a.m. crew.
When you’re not at the gym, what’s your favourite thing to do?
I only get to choose 1? Cross country skiing, gardening, and singing.
What’s your favourite local Hamilton food spot?
I’m a keto diabetic, so eating out isn’t easy, so steaks on the barbeque is more my speed, but we do enjoy The French on King William occasionally.
