Member Spotlight: Michel St. Pierre

What got you into CrossFit?

I needed a change from the mundane of just going to the gym and working out by myself. I wanted to change my focus to overall fitness instead of just lifting.  

What do you like about Alchemy?

I love the atmosphere and the learning. It’s a supportive environment where you can learn and develop at your own pace. The coaching is amazing which is great to get that push in the right direction and keep you safe.

What has been your proudest moment at Alchemy?

Being able to get that first rope climb in was something special for me.

What are your CrossFit goals for the future?

Right now, I’m working on the movements that I still struggle with like overhead squats. I want to be able to do reps of handstand push-ups as well as handstand walks so, I am working towards those. Long distance running isn’t my strength, but I plan on getting better at it.

If you could design the perfect workout, what would it include?

Simple, sled push and sled pulls only and you sprint back to do the pull after the push… keep adding weight until you can’t walk or you can’t pull it back.  You can add a weight vest to make it spicy.

What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in yourself since you started CrossFit?

Honest, my posture has changed a lot. I had more of a caveman posture before, now I stand up straight.

When you’re not at the gym, what’s your favourite thing to do?

Food is my favourite thing to do, clearly. Enjoying drinks and apps at a bar or restaurant with great people is the best.

What’s your favourite local Brantford food spot?

I definitely enjoy Sociable; they have great food and great drinks
