Tell us about yourself!
I’m 59, have been working for the City of Hamilton for 35 years, usually go to CrossFit with my partner David, and have a super cute 3 year old grandson – Lochlan. I love travel, coffee, and sci-fi.
What got you into CrossFit?
I initially worked out at the gym on my own for quite a few years, but liked the idea of working out in a class or group setting. I saw some folks doing CrossFit and thought I’d give it a try.
What do you like about Alchemy?
The coaches and the community!
What has been your proudest moment at Alchemy?
Proudest moment would be completing the 2023 Open. I didn’t care about my time, I just wanted to get the workouts done. It was loads of fun! Can’t wait for 2024!
What are your CrossFit goals for the future?
I’d like to master double-unders and be able to do 5 pull-ups. Overall, my fitness goals are to stay healthy and keep active.
If you could design the perfect workout, what would it include?
Deadlifts, dumbbell cleans and rowing are some of my favourites.
What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in yourself since you started CrossFit?
More confidence. I’ve never been “athletic” in the traditional sense. But doing CrossFit has given me the confidence to try things. Start small, keep going!
When you’re not at the gym, what’s your favourite thing to do?
Cooking and baking, but dishes not so much! I also love to travel when I have the chance.
What’s your favourite local Hamilton food spot?
Saint James downtown for breakfast or lunch, and Domestique in Dundas for coffee.
