Tell us about yourself!

Hello! I’m Kat, and I’ve been coming to Alchemy since the end of 2019. I moved to Toronto shortly after for two years while my partner finished his training, and now we are back in Hamilton. I’m very excited to join the Alchemy community again and be back in the city that I missed dearly. Along with making a big move this year, I decided to quit a career that I hated, and now I’m trying to figure out what my next chapter is..

What got you into CrossFit?

I spent years trying to find something that would keep me active. I tried lots of home workout programs, tried going to the gym on my own, tried going with friends, but I was never consistent. Anytime I was at the gym, I would be really confused on what the best exercises were and what would help me gain strength/lose weight. After talking to someone I knew who went to Alchemy, I liked the idea of having a workout already waiting for you and a coach that was always available to help. So I gave it a shot, and finally found something I enjoyed!

What do you like about Alchemy?

It’s a very welcoming environment. I felt immediately comfortable in my first class- from the coaches to the fellow gym-goers who are always supportive and never judgemental.

What has been your proudest moment at Alchemy?

I can’t think of any specific moment, but I’m always proud when I finish any workout. I’m not trying to be cheesy, some of the things you guys come up with are hard!!

What are your CrossFit goals for the future?

Literally just one pull-up.

If you could design the perfect workout, what would it include?

I love olympic lifting, so any strength-focused workout would be right up my alley.

What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in yourself since you started CrossFit?

Aside from gaining physical strength, I’ve noticed a huge shift in my mental strength and confidence. I have changed the way I approach working out–no longer being so obsessed with how my body looks, but more-so how I feel. It also helps that I feel confident in my ability to kick some butt if needed thanks to all the boxing classes!

When you’re not at the gym, what’s your favourite thing to do?

I’m a homebody, so spending time with my partner and dog are at the top of the list. Otherwise I am happy to spend my time baking, reading, watching horror movies, and generally being pretty lazy.

What’s your favourite local Hamilton food spot?

Maipai and The Mule all the way!
